Advice welcome...even if i hardly know you.

So, Noah learned a new trick yesterday. It was absolutely precious the first time, the second time it was pretty funny, the third time it was a little annoying, around the 20th time it was just down right rude.

Drumroll please...Noah climbed out of his crib. I know most 2 year olds have been doing this for some time, but we were very thankful that ours didn't see the need. His first escape was around 3:30 yesterday afternoon after his nap. I went upstairs to get him, and there he was with his blankey over his shoulder and a big grin on his face trying to close his bedroom door behind him. He looked at me with a huge grin and said, "I did it, momma! I got bankey and open door!" (yeah, that's not all you did little man.) Now he thinks it is a fantastic game. Another problem is that he can't get back into the crib, so my first attempts of telling him to get back into bed from the hall were met with "help, momma, help!" That was after I had already returned him to his bed countless times. (and I do mean countless) Once he got to sleep around 11 o'clock (way past my bedtime and his), he did stay there; so I am thankful for that.
Any ideas of how to get a 2 year old to stay in bed??? Does this mean the crib is a thing of the past?

Oh wow - what a fun new discovery for Noah! Not so much fun for you though. Andrew never climbed out of his crib - but we moved him to a big boy bed (for other reasons) when he was about 21/22 months old. He's done great with it! We do have to put a baby gate at the door to his bedroom or he'll come see us during the night. :) But as long as his gate is up, he's good to go. His knew trick is getting up about an hour early in the morning, pulling lots of books into his bed, and reading til the rest of us get up. It's always something, isn't it?!

Well Emily...be thankful he lasted this long. Kaelyn was about 17 months the first time she climbed out. Is your crib taller in the back than it is in the front? Ours is, and my father had the great idea of putting the back to the front because then she couldn't get the leverage from the side angle to get out. I had to put her in from the side of her crib everytime to go nigh-night, but it was worth it to keep her in her crib for another year. Good Luck in finding an option.

Oh the joys of our little ones growing up! We put Zachariah in a big boy bed when he was about 22/23 months old. It was crazy, because Morgan was just a few months old, but he was great at obeying and staying in bed. We used to give him a book or two in bed and say, "read these and when you are done, put them down and go to sleep". Somehow, that did the trick and we still do the same thing for him!

Morgan tried climbed out when she was about 15 months old and never tried again. If she does start doing it, we'll probably just put her in a big bed. Big bed for us is a twin mattress on the floor with a railing to help prevent falling off the sides.

One friend used a crib tent. You can find them almost anywhere. The zipper is on the outside, so they can't undo it themselves. I never went that route for fear Z or M would start with claustrophobia at an early age.

My vote? I love the idea of turning the bed around like Sara said. Otherwise, big boy bed, here you come! It's really not that bad and the independence he will feel is immeasurable!

Let us know what you decide or try!
